Table of Contents

On Sunday, November 15th 2026, the New England Patriots and the Detroit Lions take over Munich’s Allianz Arena Stadium. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. local time — that’s 9:30 a.m. EST. So it’s going to be breakfast football for fans in the USA.

If you’re flying over from the States for this one, Munich is a great host city: not too big, very safe, well connected by public transport, and worldwide known for Bavarian hospitality and traditions you might see as typically German.

This guide is just for you fans from the US. It covers all the practical stuff: how to get to the Allianz Arena, where the official fan events are happening, a proper FAQ on using the U-Bahn and S-Bahn, and some personal recommendations for where to go to have traditional food and beer.

At A Glance (TL;DR)

Match
New England Patriots versus Detroit Lions (NFL Munich Game 2026, Week 10)
When
Sunday, November 15th 2026; Kickoff: 3:30 p.m local time (9:30 a.m EST)
Where
Allianz Arena Stadium Munich (Home of FC Bayern München Soccer Club); Capacity circa 70.000 seats
Getting There
Subway Line U6 (blue line) to Fröttmaning station, then 10-15 minute walk.

Please be aware of the following:

  • Tickets for the Game do not come atomatically with a public transport ticket. Tickets for the subway can be bought at ticket vending machines at every subway station.
  • There is no public tailgate scene! Be aware that Allianz Arena is in the north of Munich, surrounded by hills and motorways. There is nothing to do and Novembers in Munich can be cold, windy and icey. If you like to have that feeling, stick to the Fan Pubs downtown Munich.
  • Tickets are sold out! Please do not buy tickets from strangers who claim they can’t go there. The Arena is sold out. Use official resale platforms instead.
  • Boost your immune system! Munich mid-November can be icey and rainy. So the chance to catch a cold is very high.
  • Try to not to only see the Allianz Arena but also check out at least the main sights of Munich.

How to get to the Allianz Arena Munich

These are your options from downtown Munich:

  • Subway line U6 (blue line) – The easiest and most convenient way. From the inner city, you can take the subway line U6 direction ‘Garching-Forschungszentrum’. The U6 crosses Munich from southwest to northwest. The Allianz Arena is located at the Fröttmaning stration. Trains run every 10 minutes.
  • By Taxi or Rideshares – Throughout the city, you will find many taxi ranks. Taxis can bring you also to the Allianz Arena, but be aware that a taxi ride is rather expensive in Munich. Plus, the taxi can get stuck in traffic around the Stadium.
  • By (rental) car – This is possible, but be aware that match-day congestion is usually severe and car parks fill fast. There are no residential areas around, where you can park your car and walk the last stretch. Therefore Allianz Arena recommends to get there early. The Stadium has 3 parking garages (P1, P2 and P3) with P1 being the closest to the stadium and P3 the farthest. Allianz Arena states, that for the match only P2 and P3 are available. The garages scan the car plate, so there is no congestions at the entrance of the parking decks. Parking costs 20 Euros (approx. 22 USD). You can register your car (plate) and pay beforehand online.

These are your options from Munich Airport:

  • First: Urban Rail line S1 or S8 to ‘Hauptbahnhof’ (Main Station), then: Subway line U6 (blue line) – The ride from Munich Airport takes about 45 minutes. Urban Rail trains run every 10 minutes to the city center. S1 takes the western route to the city center, S8 the eastern route. Both need approx. 45 minutes to the Main Station. From there,  take the subway line U6 direction ‘Garching-Forschungszentrum’.  Trains run every 10 minutes.
  • By Lufthansa Express Bus – This can get handy for going to Allianz Arena. The Bus runs from Munich Airport to Munich Downtown, but stops at subway station ‘Nordfriedhof’ (Northern Cemetary). There, you can directly hob into subway line U6 to Fröttmaning. See also my specific article about the Lufthansa Express Bus.
  • By Taxi or Rideshares – This might be convenient, as the Airport is not too far away and also in the northeast of Munich. So Allainz Arena is between the Airport and downtown Munich. As mentioned before, taxi rides are rather expensive in Munich. While there is a fixed price for taxis going to downtown Munich, there is none from the Airport to the Arena. A taxi will cost about 90-120 Euros oneway (100 – 135 USD) depending on traffic.
  • By (rental) car – see above under ‘options from downtown Munich*

Getting back

This is the bit usually nobody warns you about. Fröttmaning station is the only rail option for Allianz Arena and most of the 70,000 people want to use it at once. Expect queues immediately after the final whistle. My advice here: don’t fight it. Stay for the post-game atmosphere, grab something to eat, or simply accept a slow shuffle back. The U-Bahn runs late, so there’s no panic about the last train. Pro tip: if you have time and no further plans in Munich, take a stroll to the ‘sunken church’ Art project. From the Stadium entrance, take the pedestrian bridge over the highway, then make a left turn and keep right. You will find a sunken church that looks like it is eaten by the hill. You can also walk up the hill an have a view over the city (path not illuminated during the night).

At The Allianz Arena Stadium

Allianz Arena is a huge soccer stadium and home of the world known FC Bayern München Soccer Club. It also was home of the second Munich soccer Club TSV 1860 München until 2017.

A special feature of the Alianz Arena is its architecture. It looks like a huge rubber boat because it is covered with transparent tiles that can be illuminated in different colors (see picture above). Usually it si illuminated in the colors of FC Bayern München (red) or neutral (white). For special occasions, the Stadium is illuminated differently, like on the Day Of German Unity, the Allianz Arena is illuminated in the colors of the German flag (black, red, gold) or on Christopher Steet Day it shows the rainbow colors.  Another special thing you can only see from above. It looks like a huge jellyfish (Stadium) with its tentacles (paths to the subway station).

The Allianz Arena has a large entry control. Please make sure, you are familiar with the procedure and do not bring items that are forbidden and get conficated. Pre-Game parties/Fan Pubs

The action is concentrated in the city centre in the days leading up to the game — not at the stadium. Here’s what’s confirmed.

Detroit Lions Fan Fest:

The Fan Fest for the Detroit Lions takes place at Odeonsplatz (northern end of Old Town Munich).  It is just a five minutes’ walk from Marienplatz (city Center), and it hosts a free fan festival with family-friendly games, giveaways, food trucks and Lions personalities like the Lions Cheerleaders and Mascots. , from 5 p.m., live concerts — including Detroit techno legend Kevin Saunderson and rapper Big Sean. Munich’s most famous beer hall, known worldwide — Munich’s Hofbräuhaus is being converted into the Lions HQ for the whole game week. Expect jerseys, chanting, one-litre beer steins and a lot of very confused tourists who booked their trip six months ago. Honestly, go. Even if you’re a Patriots fan.

See the offical Detroit Lions Website for more information, what you can expect at the fan pub.

The Patriots take a different approach. The don’t make a public fan fest like the Lions, but they will turn the traditional Augustiner Stammhaus Beer Hall in Neuhauser Street (city center) into “Boston in Bavaria”. With Meet Boston, the official tourism organization for the Greater Boston area, the Patriots are settung up their HQ at Augustiner (free entrance). There you can meet the Patriots cheerleaders, the Mascot Pat Patriot and even get autographs of former players.

On display will be all six Super Bowl rings, and other items from the Patriots’ Hall of Fame. There will also be a meet-and-greet with Patriots legends, the cheerleaders, and  Pat Patriot,

Saturday, Nov. 14th: 10 p.m until 11 p.m

Watch-Parties

If you just like to watch the Munich Game, you can check out these venues:

  • Sportsbar Champions inside of the München Marriott Hotel (Berliner Street 93; subway station Nordfriedhof)
  • Augustiner Bürgerheim (traditional Bavarian Inn) Bergmannstreet 33, subway station Schwanthalerhöhe or urban rail station Heimeranplatz. Entrance fee 15 EUR.

Practical Tips

  • Weather: mid-November in Munich sits around 1–7°C. Rain and icy wind is common. The Allianz Arena is open-air. Bring a coat, gloves and a hat, and wear layers — you’ll be standing outdoors for a while before and after the game.
  • Cash vs. card: cards are widely accepted, but some smaller stores and small pubs are still cash-friendly. Carry €20–€50 in cash also for some small bites like a pretzel from a bakery.
  • Christmas markets: the big christmas markets open around November 20th, but there are a couple already open, such as the “Winterworld” at Motorworld Munich, the “Alpenwahn” at Viktualienmarket and the WinterWunderWERK at Werksviertel district.
  • Language: nearly everyone speaks English, but a Bavarian “Servus” (used like a casual “Hi”) and a “Danke” (thank you) go a long way.
